“Communication – the human connection – is the key to personal and career success”
Paul J. Meyer
Hello my lovelies!
I’m starting the week off with yet another outfit post, but this aesthetic took a completely different turn compared to last week’s look. In the best way possible, I have no style.
The commonality between my two outfit posts is one singular brand: Wild Fable. I’m genuinely impressed with this line of clothing, from the wide range of styling options to the size inclusivity. For reference, those pants are an extra small. Extra Small. It’s almost like this clothing line had real human beings with feelings in mind when they decided to make this line available to a wide range of guests. I can get behind a clothing line that makes sense of their sizing instead of pulling random numbers out of their ass like so many other brands tend to do.
Earlier in the day before these pictures, a little old man had told me I look like I’m wearing pirate pants. I can see his point, but I think I look more like I order a $15.00 plate of avocado toast and post it on my Instagram. Not that there’s anything wrong with that except capitalism making $15.00 avocado toast a thing.
I really loved the idea of pairing these pants with a graphic T, so I whipped out my unapologetic feminist shirt with what I think is the best message you can give: Raising our children equally. In case you all have selectively skipped my blog posts where I’ve mentioned this several times before, I’m that radical intersectional feminist that your conservative uncle at Christmas hates. I’m also definitely not sorry about it.
That’s the one thing I kept thinking about while editing these photos. I really don’t tell any of you a whole lot about me. I don’t really keep you in the loop with what’s going on in my life. To some degree it’s because I think no one cares, but it’s apparent to me, based on how much engagement other bloggers get when they open up, that I’m wrong. The other part of me is constantly worried about coming off as vain by talking about myself, which is pretty idiotic since this entire blog is for me. It’s amazing that you all can benefit from this blog as well, but this will always be a little piece of me being inserted into the interwebs for my own satisfaction, and that’s not an inherently bad thing.
I haven’t had too much going on in my personal life, but I’ve had a couple amazing things come my way. However, like a lot of things in life, they started with a pretty shitty hiccup.
For starters, I submitted my application for the part time Esthetics program at the Aveda Institute. The good news: I got in. The bad news: Part time was full. In my state of panic I impulsively asked about the full time program, knowing that I definitely could not go to work at the same time and therefore definitely couldn’t afford it. I’m an extremely lucky person with a solid family, and my parents and grandparents offered to invest in my education, likely because they know how crushed I was that I would’ve had to wait another year for the part time program that I so desperately wanted. In short, I get to quit my dead-end job and follow the path I’ve been dying to create for myself in November, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Before school starts however, I’ve got another small thing coming up. Back in mid July, I was contacted by an indie organization called RAW Artists. They do showings around the world of small, independent artists and asked me to be a part of their showcase in Milwaukee. I was initially certain they were full of shit and preferred to err on the side of caution, but 20 crowdfunded tickets sold later, I’m going to be showcasing my work in front of 600+ people, and I still can’t believe I’m typing that out. It’s been stressful as hell and I’ve already had plenty of “oh shit” moments along the way, but I’m confident that it’s going to be worth it, if not for the exposure, then for my own personal achievement.
