“The goal isn’t to live forever, but to create something that will”
Hello my lovelies!
If you don’t speak Spanish, you might be a little confused by the title of this post. If you don’t know who Selena Quintanilla is, I’m a little confused by you. Selena was only one of the greatest Tejano singers to ever exist and all, but I’ll let it slide this one time. Consider it a favor.
If you’re still confused about what the title has to do with today’s post, it actually happens to be one of my favorite songs by Selena, and I’ve definitely got an unintentional Selena vibe going on in this outfit.
Selena was a powerhouse during the early 90’s, and while some of the fashion at that time makes me want to do unspeakable things, Target recently managed to come out with a new line of clothing inspired by the 90’s that I can appreciate. This isn’t sponsored and I really hate working there, but I still have an insatiable thirst for pointless Target shopping trips.
I only picked up the red bodysuit this time around, but I fully intend to go back and pick up a few more pieces, since everything is under $40.00. Not really having a set aesthetic in my closet means that I can fully explore their range, from Clueless vibes to shitty teen garage band T’s.
You’re probably still trying to figure out what this has to do with Selena other than the title. The answer is in the red bodysuit. Selena often wore these off the shoulder bodysuits, making her into a sexier (in my opinion) version of Bridgette Bardot, and who doesn’t want to feel sexy?
If you look back through the 90’s, a lot of the fashion that was explored back then was…unrelatable. How in the world could the masses have known what was going to look good on them when Kate Moss was their frame of reference? While there isn’t anything wrong with Kate because all bodies are beautiful, it’s unrealistic to imply that we all look like that. Selena became the thick Latina representation that the 90’s needed, and I’m still here for it.
I paired this bodysuit with a pair of high waisted blue jeans that have an asymmetrical hem at the bottom, a trend I’ve been loving for short girls in particular. The silver is also a little homage to Selena with her bold stage outfits, and of course I had to add some puffball earrings since I sing to the tune of a bad bitch vibe.
