I’ve Been Nominated for Awards!

“Share your smile with the world. It’s a symbol of friendship and peace”

-Christie Brinkley

Hello my lovelies!

I’m finally getting around to posting about my award nominations! It’s been a long ass time since I’ve received my three nominations, but as I noted in my previous post, I really wanted to put my heart into this.

I want to start by thanking all three of the beautiful individuals that nominated me for awards. It may not seem like much in the grand scheme of things, but I’m obviously going to take it to a new level of appreciation because I’m me, and I’m not used to garnering any sort of positive attention.

I’ve spent most of my life without friends, sometimes by choice, and sometimes not. As much as its been a lonely road, it did teach me a lot about independence and finding joy within myself and what I do with my time. However, it’s still not fun knowing that to a lot of people, you’re an operating organism in the background. You’re not a big part of their lives, even if you want to be. So while this may not seem like much, being nominated for awards actually makes me feel all kinds of warm and fuzzy inside, because it means that at least three people take the time to acknowledge that I do take up space in a world of 7 billion people. And when you’re someone like me who isn’t used to getting that kind of positive attention from your peers, that’s a big fucking deal.

Yes, I might be taking this to a whole new level of extra-ness and overdoing it, but watering down how this actually makes me feel is a complete disservice to myself and those of you reading this now. Again, thank you so much to the three women who nominated me, please know that I deeply appreciate it!

Let’s get started:

Liebster Award:

liebster award

I was nominated for this award by two of my favorite bloggers that I follow. I believe that Emily over at EmilyBurnsMua nominated me first, but Chelsea from WhatChelseaWears followed up not long afterward. If you’re following/viewing my content and not theirs, I highly suggest you go check them out. I also want to thank them for being so noticeably sweet to me all the time, and dropping so many likes and comments on my posts!

The Rules:

  • Acknowledge who has nominated you and share their links
  • Answer the 11 questions that you have been asked
  • Nominate 11 more bloggers that you would recommend
  • Ask 11 questions that you would like those bloggers to answer
  • Let the bloggers that you have nominated know that they’ve been nominated

Emily’s Questions:

  • What’s your favorite quote?

“We’re all mad here” from Lewis Caroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”. As someone who struggles with mental health issues, I like to remind myself often that it isn’t just me that feels this way. Mental illness can be very isolating, and it loves to shove you into the darkest corners of your brain to ensure that you do feel as alone as possible. Sometimes it helps to realize that we all have a little crazy in us,and that it’s perfectly normal.

  • What’s your favorite dessert?

A Milka chocolate bar cannot be beat. I’m generally not that into dessert, but chocolate is something that I (almost) always can’t say no to.

  • Are you right or left handed?

I actually started out left handed until I went to preschool. No, I wasn’t beaten with a ruler for using the devil’s hand or anything. I just saw all of the kids using their right hand and figured that was the way to go. I’m still entirely left sided in any other situation.

  • Favorite recipe?

My mom’s Alfredo Sauce from Lago Di Garda, Italy. Unfortunately, that’s a family recipe that I’m not sure I can share, but you can stay at my house and eat a bowl anytime!

  • What’s a goal you have for the future?

Earning my Esthetician’s license. I love skincare as much as I love makeup, and I’m hoping that establishing myself in skincare will allow me to freelance on the side!

  • What TV show(s) are you loving right now?

Anything Marvel Cinematic Universe related. I grew up reading many of the comic books and watching the cartoons, and still enjoy them to this day. Currently watching “The Punisher”.

  • What is your zodiac sign?

Aries, so you could say I’m the GOAT. No?…Ok.

  • What’s your favorite makeup product right now?

This is such an unfair question it hurts! Can I say everything? I’m really into using my Fenty foundation has a mixer for my other foundations, so I think that’s my current favorite.

  • What is your favorite fast food place and what do you order?

You can’t be from Wisconsin and not say Culver’s. Plus, they have gluten free buns so that I can enjoy my burger the way it should be enjoyed. I go the classic route: a butter burger with ketchup and mayo, french fries, and a chocolate milkshake. I’m a weirdo and have a habit of dipping my fries in the shake. Trust me, it’s delicious.

  • On a scale of 1-10, how happy are you with your life right now?

Depends on the day. If my anxiety is acting up, I could be at a 2 or a 3, but most days I’m at a solid 6. I just have so much I want to work toward and improve on, and while I generally maintain a positive outlook on my life, I still struggle with not seeing the bigger picture and not being hard on myself for where I’m at now. I act like I’ve failed as a person so much, despite the fact that I’m 19 and still a baby in the grand scheme of things. I think learning to be happy with where I’m at, whether good or bad, is something I’m trying to work on, and slowly getting better at.

Chelsea’s Questions:

  • How long have you been blogging for and what made you start?

Unofficially: I think 3 years. Officially: About 2 years. I originally started out with no clear goals in mind, I just began by putting together outfits and sharing them via Polyvore like I was playing barbie dress up. Eventually I built the confidence to include myself in the blog posts, and I haven’t stopped since.

  • What’s your favorite movie?

Mean Girls. I know that’s such a basic answer, but I still love that the overall message is to just spread some girl positivity. It just reinforces my feminist thoughts, if nothing else!

  • If you had to live off of one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This is really hard for me. My greatest love, other than beauty, is food. With the exception of things that I can’t tolerate (gluten), I am a human garbage can and will eat practically anything. I adore exploring new cultures by sampling dishes important to those cultures. Because food is shared by people, I find that the food is the best way to learn important and interesting things about people from all over the world. Plus, who has time to hate on anyone when you’re busy stuffing your face? I think ultimately, I would pick Sushi, as it’s so varietal and so beautiful at the same time.

  • What’s your favorite makeup product?

Same as Emily’s question, mixing my Fenty foundation to lighten my other foundations, since only Fenty thinks my mayo skin exists.

  • What is your dream job?

Working with laser treatments in skincare. I’ve spent many years receiving laser treatments for my acne scarring, and it’s part of what fostered my interest in skincare and beauty to begin with. I want to use beauty as a tool to help people, because I still need to feed my Social Justice Humanitarian side.

  • How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Vivacious. Assertive. Loyal.

  • Favorite Holiday Destination?

I went on a river cruise back when I was 14, starting in Amsterdam and ending in Budapest. I got to visit several towns and cities throughout Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary. It was such a truly amazing trip to take with my grandparents and great aunt, between the gorgeous views, great food, and lovely people. I also squeezed in a trip to London and Birmingham 2 years ago when my mother was being sent for work, and spent a lot of that time bonding and exploring with my grandma. I am truly so lucky to have been able to experience these places, and I hope to one day venture beyond the states once again.

  • Do you have any bad habits?

Procrastination. I hate this habit because it leads people to believe I’m lazy, but the reality is that I am a huge perfectionist and I fear rejection, so not doing what I need to do at all, sounds a lot better than doing it and being told it’s terrible. I totally understand that this is mostly in my head, but it doesn’t make it any less terrifying for me. Now that I have a full time job where I’m constantly validated and encouraged, this bad habit is starting to disappear little by little, and I’m so thankful to my coworkers and bosses for helping me grow, even if they don’t realize it.

  • What’s your favorite thing to wear?

Shoes in general. If I could dedicate an entire room to just a shoe collection, I would

probably cause a national shortage in footwear.

  • What’s your idea of a perfect weekend?

One where I’m worry free. I spend so much of my time worrying about bills, going back to school, and if I’m going to get married before I’m 30 that my idea of a perfect weekend is one where literally none of that even crosses my mind for 48 solid hours. Even if I’m doing nothing but sitting in bed the whole day. It doesn’t have to be an eventful weekend, I just want complete mental calmness.

I nominate:

Catherine – Atypical60

Emzynelson – Emma Blogs

Lisa – The Girl Who Doesn’t Brush Her Hair

MareBare – Beauty Banter

Once again, a huge thank you to these two lovelies for nominating me. I’m incredibly humbled!

Questions are at the end of this post!

Blogger Recognition Award:

I was nominated for this number by the wonderful Life With Mrs T. I love that her content is not limited to just one genre, as she always leaves you with something interesting to read. Seeing multifaceted bloggers such as herself has inspired me to write more about topics outside of beauty, like my recent post regarding the social implications of the new Tarte Shape Tape Foundation, which Mrs T also wrote a wonderful post on. Thank you so much for doing what this nomination implies; recognizing me!

The Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog in your post
  • Give your readers a brief history about this awesome award
  • Give new bloggers 2 of your best pieces of advice
  • Select 10 other bloggers to nominate
  • Comment on everyone’s blog to let them know that you have nominated them

What is the Blogger Recognition Award:

The Blogger Recognition Award aims to grow the blogging world by recognizing and connecting fellow bloggers in order to create a healthy support web. While it’s taken me a long time to come out of my own shell and start interacting with other bloggers, I have discovered some truly wonderful individuals that deserve some attention.

What is my blog about, and why did I start blogging:

My blog is a heaping pile of makeup tutorials, with a dash of fashion and a sprinkle of random rambles. I originally didn’t write at all, as I stated earlier when answering Chelsea’s similar question. However, I began to write once I started to believe that hey, people WILL read (maybe even enjoy) what I have to say, and I should really try it out. Now, here I am being nominated for awards, all because I decided to take a small chance and type out some thoughts.

Advice for bloggers starting out:

Blog for YOU –

Even if your goal is to ultimately be some hotshot famous Youtuber, always do this for yourself. Despite what many people think, you are not a circus act that’s meant for others. You are you, and you should only blog about what interests you, and when you want to. You do not owe anyone a damn thing. You’ll earn the success of your blog because you put in the work, not because of how many people follow you at a given time.

Blog about YOUR interests –

To add on top of that, blog about what interests you. An impassioned blogger is a successful blogger, and if underwater basket weaving is your passion, then you’ll have no problem keeping the interest of those who prefer above ground tablecloth sewing, because your passion is what’s driving them to read and absorb what you have to say.

I nominate:

Sarah – Vintage Tea Rose

Lynn – Peculiar Blonde Girl

Morgan – Bay Area Beauty Blogger

Jodie – A Brash Attitude

Thank you so much to Mrs T for nominating me! I really appreciate you so much for this!

Nominee questions:

  1. What’s one thing you’ve learned recently?
  2. What did you do this past weekend?
  3. If you had a song to introduce yourself when you walk into a room, what would that song be?
  4. Where is your favorite spot in your town/city?
  5. What’s your favorite thing that you do to help yourself relax?
  6. What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?
  7. What’s your favorite “flaw” about yourself?
  8. What’s your aesthetic?
  9. If you could have lunch with anyone (alive or dead) who would it be?
  10. What’s a charity or organization that you like to support?

That all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have a wonderful Wednesday!

Stay beautiful!
