OOTD: Casual Fishnets

“I will not be another flower, picked for my beauty and left to die. I will be wild, difficult to find, and impossible to forget”

Hello my lovelies!

I KNOW. IT’S PINK. LET ME LIVE.

My relationship with pink is actually a really intense love/hate story. My childhood was mostly filled with purple, but I still adored pink all the same. On a completely unrelated (but actually it is) note, I’ve never had much of a relationship with my biological father, and when he occasionally did visit and spend time with me, I was desperate to have him approve of me.

I remember one day, while out with my father, I had seen something that was a beautifully magical shade of light pink. I had mentioned it to my father, only in a casual manner and with no real meaning behind it, but the only thing he managed to mumble to me was “pink is for girls”.

Pink is for girls?

Never mind the fact that I AM a girl, and that assigning colors to genders is arbitrary. Regardless of what I know now, I immediately suppressed my love for pink, because I knew right then that my father didn’t approve of something I actively enjoyed, which became a recurring theme throughout my entire unstable relationship with him. It wasn’t until high school that I finally decided to let go of something that an unimportant person in my life said to me, because I fucking love pink, and I shouldn’t be sorry about it, especially when this person does not matter in my life.

So yes, I wear a lot of pink. I really like pink. I’ve always liked pink. I’m just excited to not have to hide something I love anymore.

In addition to my love of pink, specifically pink of the blush and pastel variety, I’ve been very into fishnet tights and the ways that I can incorporate them into a look. I’ve seen the fishnet tights under distressed denim look plastered all over Pinterest, and I figured it was my turn to give it a go.

The fishnets give a really interesting new texture to the outfit. What would’ve just been a simplistic look, got a grungy upgrade with the black gradient peeking through the holes riddled all over my jeans. I find this to be the easiest way to incorporate a street style look into your every day wear. It’s subtle enough, but also adds something peculiar to the outfit. For better or worse, if someone isn’t asking themselves “what is she wearing?”,  was the fashion risk really worth it?

They’re pretty warm despite all the holes 😂. I think they’re such an easy accessory to use when you want to channel some street style.
