“Better a witty fool than a foolish wit”
Hello my lovelies!
I never thought I would be doing this, but I’m writing my first ever anti-haul post. I find that these can sometimes be fairly petty, especially amongst the Youtube beauty guru community, what with them taking digs at each other and so on. For my anti-haul, I only want to talk about a specific product/brand and why I’m not impressed with those things alone. I have no interest in attacking anyone behind a product or brand, because, as much as I enjoy some pettiness, I’m not here to drag other people down. That’s not to say that I’m going to be sugary sweet about it, I have no qualms about calling out a problem when I see it, but I have no desire to be straight up snarly about it.
Let’s get started:
Tarte Tartelette Toasted Eyeshadow Palette – $46.00
It’s not really the palette, because it is gorgeous, but I’m tired of seeing Tarte put out virtually the same palette every. damn. time. I understand that a warm neutral palette is a must, I own a few myself, but this is basically Tarte’s entire website: basic neutrals. I know their whole thing is being natural (which they aren’t, really), but you can’t tell your consumers that while simultaneously selling a blue liquid lipstick. The beauty world is too competitive for this shit to keep flying much longer.
Fenty Beauty Galaxy Eyeshadow Palette – $59.00
Again, absolutely stunning palette, no doubt about that. I’m just not going to pay $59.00 for a palette entirely made up of shimmery shadows. I own an assload of palettes, and I love them all dearly and can assure you they are all somehow different, but all of them do have something in common: they’re well rounded, one-stop palettes. I personally don’t love the idea of an entire eyeshadow palette dedicated to shimmery shadows. Idealist me says that this is worth it because pretty colors, but realistic me says this is wasteful, because what normal, mundane human being would buy an entire palette full of shimmery and uncommon colors? It’s just not relatable.
The Entirety of the Maybelline x Gigi Hadid Collection – $7.99-$29.99
Again it’s just…so basic. and that travel palette for $30?! Maybelline, what are you doing? Slapping Gigi’s name on the product is the only reason why these prices went up, but from what I’ve seen, the quality didn’t astronomically improve for the price point. I like you the way you are, Maybelline; midpriced and decent quality. I don’t like this side of you…
Too Faced White Chocolate Bar – $49.00
This actually pains me because, unlike many people, I love the cool toned color scheme. The reason I won’t be buying this, is because of quality. A family friend bought me the miniature version around this time last year, because we both happen to really love white chocolate and it’s cute as all hell. Unfortunately, those shadows kind of suck, which makes me very apprehensive toward buying this larger version, or any Too Faced palette for that matter. I will always keep my mini version long past its expiration date, because it is sentimental to me, but I am hard pressed to use it, making this larger palette seem like a disaster waiting to happen.
La Mer The Soft Fluid Long Wearing Foundation – $110.00
There is no way that I am going to pay $110.00 for a foundation that likely doesn’t exist in my shade, doesn’t offer the benefits that I seek for my skin type, and is only 1 fluid ounce for that price point. Just no.
Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation – $40.00
Forty dollars for a plastic bottle? Nah. I can pay a lot less for a glass bottle and something that matches me for real, like Fenty or something…
Morphe 3502 Palette – $23.00
Honestly I think this was a shitty move on Morphe’s end. Nothing says unoriginal like taking a palette that you still sell, switching some shadows around, maybe adding 4 or 5 new ones, and rebranding it as the bigger and better version. It’s dishonest, and it’s silly. I could understand this if the original 350 was now gone, as well as the all shimmer and all matte versions, but they aren’t. I feel that this was lazy, especially after coming out really strong with the Jaclyn Hill palette (which I’m now looking at with caution, after this move).
That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have an amazing Saturday.
