Hello my lovelies!
Throughout August, I’ve managed to collect some new products, both drugstore and high end, to try out. While I didn’t get a chance to try every new thing, I did make a bit of a dent in the product pile. Please note that I am sharing my First Impressions of these products. I did not do a wear test throughout the day for any of them, so in terms of longevity, I have no particular thoughts unless something clearly went wrong within the hour of me wearing this look. I will be doing a separate and in depth review for a few of these products, so stay tuned for those.
Other than that blurb, I just wanted to play with some new shit. As I’ve mentioned before, I feel like I’ve been doing some basic looks lately, and having new stuff to play with is always really helpful in getting those creative juices flowing.
Also, yes, I’m comparing myself to an alien, which is fitting since I have been called a lizard person before. Waiting on my Youtube video: “Lizard Beauty Influencers: Zoey F. Exposed *Insert frog and tea emoji here*”
Let’s get started:
Primer: Wet n Wild Photo Focus Face Primer – Granted I only wore this for about an hour and a half, I don’t feel like this did anything special for me. I’m so impressed and wow’ed by my UD primer that this just felt underwhelming. I’m definitely going to try it out for a whole day and see how it looks, but so far, It’s not my favorite.
Foundation: Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-In-1 Foundation + Concealer – Despite the fact that I got this in the lightest color possible, this stuff was SUPER yellow. I wasn’t necessarily mad since my body leans a little more neutral toned than my face, but if you are cool toned in the slightest, I’m not positive this will work out. I didn’t think this was THAT full coverage, but I’m having a really awful breakout (not seen here) that might just be impossible to cover and correct. This surprisingly didn’t immediately cake up in my forehead lines to all hell, but it’s also not going to replace my UD All Nighter Foundation in terms of cake face flawlessness.
Concealer: Wet n Wild Photo Focus H2O Foundation – I know it’s a foundation, but I’m not used to applying such yellow toned foundations to my face, panicked, and decided to conceal with this foundation. I also purchased this in the lightest color, but compared to the Milani foundation it is pretty cool toned. The fact that it looks so good on my under eyes and high points gives me high hopes for overall performance on my face. I’m also impressed by the fact that I paid $6.00 for this and it worked so well.
Loose Setting Powder: Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder – Side note, I was impressed by fact that Maybelline included a color for black people, and I was pleased to see Youtube beauty guru Jackie Aina use it and enjoy it. That being said, loose powders like this, when they are not transparent like Laura Mercier, often do not work out for super pale people like me. You have no idea the level of mental preparation I had to do, to accept that this could go terribly wrong and ruin my makeup entirely. THANK BABY JESUS IT WAS GREAT. This powder looks airbrushed, adds coverage unlike Laura Mercier, and is actually brightening enough for me to bake with. on my highpoints. Kudos Maybelline, you did a service to dark people and pale people alike this time around.
Pressed Setting Powder: Milani Even Touch Powder Foundation – Again, this was pretty warm toned for the lightest color available. Besides color, this product was just meh for me. I’m spoiled by my M.A.C. Studiofix powder, which sets the bar incredibly high. I almost felt like the Maybelline loose powder covered more than this powder foundation, but I could also be delusional. Overall, eh, I don’t hate it, but I don’t actively seek it out.
Bronzer: NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna – I never bothered to pick this up in the past, because all I could see was ORANGE. I recently got it as a sample goodie in a Sephora order and figured what the hell. I was pleasantly surprised. This bronzer embodies two of my least favorite things: Shimmeriness and super warm toned. Yet somehow, it worked out really well for me. The shimmer wasn’t obnoxious and created more of a glow than anything, and the warmth was actually perfect against my skin. I’m sorry NARS, I thought Laguna for pale people was a claim that was full of shit. I stand corrected in my case.
Highlight: Maybelline Facestudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Molten Gold – I’ve literally been hunting for this highlighter for the past month and a half, and each passing day created more remorse in my head, wondering if this was worth my effort. It fucking was. I feel like this picture doesn’t do it enough justice, so here’s a photo from Instagram that showcases my feelings. I’m actually offended Maybelline, I have cataracts now.
Brows: NYX Tame and Frame Tinted Brow Pomade – I’ve always been kind of afraid of pomades, so this was really uncomfortable for me. I was actually super impressed with how much cleaner my brows look using this pomade. Is it the best ever? I don’t know, but for a person using pomade for the first time ever, I was incredibly impressed. It’s not perfect yet, but I feel like I might get used to this new brow product quickly.
Eyeshadow: Wet n Wild Color Icon Metallic Liquid Eyeshadow in Mysterious Nights – I really wish that Walgreens had more of the fun colors in stock when I was there, but this color was still gorgeous and fun to play with. Personally, I rarely use liquid shadows, so this was a little bit of work for me and it’s not perfect, but it was relatively easy to use and I think it came out well. I do not recommend using fingers with this, whether patting on or trying to blend out. I found that my finger just lifts the product more than anything. In all honesty, I probably wont get the other colors, simply because I don’t use liquid shadows that often, but I do believe this is still a good product and really beautiful.
Mascara: L’oreal Lash Paradise – I’ve tried this a few times before so I’m cheating slightly, but this shit is bananas (thanks Gwen). I’ve got three other people hooked on it now. I understand a lot of people are saying it’s a dupe for the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, however I semi-disagree. I think the wands are very similar, but the formula is much more wet and comparable to my Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara. To me, this isn’t a bad thing, because I personally don’t prefer dryer formulas like Better Than Sex. Lash Paradise also comes off really easily when using removers and I think that’s really fantastic for such an intense mascara.
Lips: Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick in Chill Zone – I wore this once back on Halloween, so I’m cheating again. I found this formula to be very opaque yet also comfortable, and didn’t give me serious butthole mouth after chugging water and eating a burrito. I also love the weirdness of the color. I adore uncommon lipstick colors, and want to find the inner confidence in myself to wear them all the time. Good thing fall is around the corner!
That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have a beautiful Wednesday night or day.
